From the start, he and his longtime friend and fellow rapper Earl “Dolla Boy” Conyers were known as one-half of the Southern hip hop duo Playaz Circle. They were both born and raised in College Park, Georgia. The duo, whose debut song is “Duffle Bag Boy,” got signed to fellow Georgia-based rapper Ludacris’ Disturbing tha Peace label (featuring Lil Wayne).
Chainz released his first studio album, Based on a T.R.U. Story, on August 14, 2012, to positive reviews but unfavorable sales. He had three hit singles from the album—”No Lie” (featuring Drake), “Birthday Song” (with Kanye West), and “I’m Different” which all peaked in the top 50 of the Billboard Hot 100 and received Gold or higher certification from the RIAA, joining the album’s Gold certification.
