It is the main of two cinematic aspects based on Kalki Krishnamurthy’s 1955 novel, Ponniyin Selvan. The film stars an ensemble cast comprising Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha, Jayaram and many other actors. The music was created by A.R Rahman. The movie gives an account of the story of the early days of Chola prince Arulmozhivarman. He was brought up in Pazhayarai by Periya Piratti and Ilaya Piratti. He was acquainted well with his sister and she made him go to Sri Lanka for battle at the age of 19. He was to be protected by Mother Kaveri herself from drowning at the age of 5 in the river. This bestowed him the title “Ponniyin Selvan” or “Son of Kaveri”.
