After being stopped by police for reckless driving on January 7, Nichols, 29, was charged. The driver allegedly ran away after a fight broke out as officers approached him, but they eventually caught up with him and arrested him.

Tyre Nichols was admitted to the hospital after complaining of having trouble breathing. Administrators say they haven’t yet determined what caused the death. The state’s police department, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, reports that Nichols passed away on January 10.

What Is Tyre Nichols Compensation?

Tyre Nichols, a Black driver who was stopped on January 7, died as a result of excessive force and other infractions committed by five officers of the Memphis Police Department.

The Memphis Police Department disciplined officers Justin Smith, Desmond Mills, Jr., Emmitt Martin III, Demetrius Haley, and Tadarrius Bean for also breaking the rules regarding the duty to intervene and the duty to render aid.

The choice was made just days after federal investigators announced the beginning of a joint FBI-Justice Department civil rights investigation into the death of the 29-year-old.
