Vernon Butler is a skilled American football player, he plays as a defensive tackle for the New York Giants of the National Football League (NFL). He is known for playing in 41 games for the Panthers, recording 53 tackles, 6 sacks, and 9 quarterback hits. In 2015, he was a standout defensive player and was named first-team All-Conference USA.

The Carolina Panthers selected Butler with the 30th overall choice in the first round, making him the highest selection of a Louisiana Tech Bulldog since Troy Edwards in 1999.

On May 13, 2016, Butler signed a four-year, $8.39 million contract with the Carolina Panthers which included a $4.30 million signing bonus and a guarantee of $7.94 million. His fifth-year option was rejected by the Panthers on May 2, 2019, leaving him a free agent in 2020. However, he was kicked out of a 38-6 loss on December 22, 2019, after hitting Indianapolis Colts’ Jack Doyle.
