William Felton Russel popularly called Bill Russel was born on February 12, 1934 in Monroe, Louisiana. He was an American basketball player who competed in the National Basketball Association for Boston Celtics. He played as a center and was drafted in 1956. Bill stands on a height of 6 feet 10 inches and weight of 98kg.

During his 13 years spell at the Boston Celtics team, Russell was the first player to win an Olympic Gold Medal, an NBA Championship, and a college championship. He was a 5-time NBA MVP and 12-time All-Star.

His illustrious career also featured 11 NBA titles with the Boston Celtics, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, and admission into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. Basketball writers selected Russell as the best player in NBA history in 1980.

 

What was the Cause of Bill Russell Death?

Boston Celtics legend Bill Russell died of a natural cause according to several sources. He passed away on July 31, 2022 at the age of 88.
In a tribute post, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said, “Through the taunts, threats and unthinkable adversity, Bill rose above it all and remained true to his belief that everyone deserves to be treated with dignity.”
