During his early life, he was arrested 28 times and was convicted of many crimes including extortion, coercion, and felony weapons possession among other crimes. It was while he was in prison for one of his crimes that he decided to venture into acting.

Tony Sirico was featured in a film for the first time in the year 1974 when he played Crazy Joe.

He got the role with the help of Richard Castellano, also an actor.

Sirico has won the Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series twice at the Screen Actors Guilds Awards in 2000 and 2008.
