Freddie Joe Ward was a San Diego native who was born on December 30, 1942. His ancestry is Cherokee. His father was an alcoholic criminal with a lengthy prison history, and his mother abandoned him when he was three years old. Grandma raised him after his mother remarried a carnival worker and rebuilt her life. In the three years before he started acting, Ward served in the US Air Force.
