Gerald Lawson, was born on the first of December 1940 in Brooklyn, New York City, he is an American electronic engineer. He is known for leading the group that invented the commercial video game cartridge and for designing the Fairchild Channel F video game console. According to Black Enterprise magazine in 1982, he was tagged as the “father of the videogame cartridge.” He left Fairchild and started his own video game, known as Video-Soft.

Lawson stated that his first-grade teacher encouraged him to follow the footsteps of George Washington Carver, by becoming someone influential. Lawson was very young, when he worked and earned money from repairing televisions while residing in Queens. He obtained his amateur radio license when he was 13 years old, and after that, he used his own money to build his own station at home, using components from nearby electronics shops. He enrolled at both Queens College and City College of New York, but he didn’t finish his studies there.

Gerald Lawson died on April 9, 2011. He died of complications from diabetes.
