Francis was born on March 6th, 1960, in London, he played for numerous teams which include, including Sheffield United, Crewe Alexandra, Fulham, Barnet, Brentford, Wimbledon, Reading, and Gillingham, between 1980 and 1992.
Before he became a pro in football, he went into non-League football and played for a number of clubs in 1995. Francis also played for a number of teams, but these teams involves countries that were outside the United Kingdom, and these countries include Racing Ghent in Belgium, Honka, JYP 77, Tampa Bay Rowdies in the United States, and HJK Helsinki in Finland.
Joseph spent time on loan at Wimbledon and HJK Helsinki in Finland in the early months of 1987 before leaving Brentford. In 1988, while at Reading, he was loaned out to Bristol Rovers and Aldershot.
