Lance Reddick, who was born on December 31st, 1962, was raised in an affluent family. His father was a lawyer. Lance Reddick began taking piano lessons at a young age with the intention of becoming a classical composer.
Lance Reddick enrolled at the Peabody Preparatory Institute while still a teenager and finished the summer music theory and composition course at the Walden School.
He moved to Boston, Massachusetts, after earning his Bachelor of Music at the Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester in the 1980s. Reddick later earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from Yale.
In the HBO drama series “Oz,” which aired between 2000 and 2001, he portrayed Johnny Basil, a.k.a. Desmond “Zil” Mobay, an undercover drug cop using the fictional name of a heroin addict from Jamaica. Also, he played Dr. Taylor, a recurring character on NBC’s “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” in six episodes.
