American actor Allen Payne, who was born Allen Roberts on July 7, 1968, is best known for playing Jason Alexander in the drama Jason’s Lyric from 1994 and for playing C.J. Payne on Tyler Perry’s House of Payne, a family sitcom (2006–present). Payne is also well-known for playing Lance Rodman on NBC’s The Cosby Show for the show’s final two seasons. Payne also portrayed Gerald “Gee Money” Wells in the 1991 movie New Jack City and Detective Justice in the 1995 movie Vampire in Brooklyn.

The eldest child of Allen Roberts and Barbara Reeves, Payne was born Allen Roberts in the New York City neighborhood of Harlem. He went to Pennsauken High School in the New Jersey town of Pennsauken.

Payne made his acting debut on television in a 1990 Cosby Show episode. He played Lance Rodman, Charmaine’s lover, for a total of two seasons. Payne subsequently made appearances in episodes of Malcolm & Eddie and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

Payne has made numerous cinematic appearances. In the hip-hop spoof CB4, which was written by Chris Rock and Nelson George and produced by George, he played “Dead Mike.” Additionally, he had appearances in The Perfect Storm, Jason’s Lyric, Vampire in Brooklyn, Double Platinum, and New Jack City. He played C.J. Payne on Tyler Perry’s House of Payne beginning in 2006. In the video I’m Not The Same Girl by Stacy Lattisaw, he also made an appearance.
