An AMBER Alert was issued for Athena on Thursday, a day after Athena Strand originally went missing.
Athena Strand’s body was discovered about 6 miles southeast of Boyd. A huge police presence was visible Friday evening on County Road 4599, one of three spots Horner had directed police to before Athena was discovered.
Wise made the statement at a news conference at 10 p.m., claiming that the inquiry had only been closed a few hours before. They also stated that FedEx assisted with the inquiry on Friday.
Based on digital evidence and statements acquired while interviewing Horner, FBI Acting Agent in Charge Jim Dwyer believes Athena died only about an hour after being stolen.
They stated that they were aware that a FedEx driver had visited the residence on the day Athena went missing, but that the investigation led to Horner as a result of a tip and solid police work.
