Christopher Claus Andersen, is a former professional basketball player from the United States, who was born in Long Beach, California, on July 7, 1978.
He is popularly known by his nickname “Birdman,” and was a one-year player at Blinn College. He spent his childhood in Iola, Texas, however, the Chinese Basketball Association and American lower leagues was the starting points of Andersen’s professional career. Later on, he participated in NBA games with the New Orleans Hornets and the Denver Nuggets.
Chris Andersen, was given a two-year suspension from the NBA in 2006 for breaking the organization’s drug policy, but he was later granted a reprieve on March 4, 2008, and the following day re-signed with the Hornets.
Later in 2008, he went back to Denver and stayed with the team there until 2012. In January 2013, he joined the Miami Heat, and the following year, he joined them in a championship victory.
The only Blinn students to have ever played in the NBA are Chris Andersen, and Oliver Lafayette. Chris was persuaded to play basketball in high school by the team’s coach because he believed it would increase his chances of receiving a scholarship for college.
