Baker was raised in Dallas. He first worked in St. Louis before relocating to Houston, where he continued to work until his program was cancelled in 2007.
In 2006, the Houston Press stated of Baker, “Chris Baker is the leading local talk-show host in town; since the town in question is Houston.” He was a 2008 Texas Radio Hall of Fame nominee. Baker has been under fire for comments he has made regarding Magic Johnson, Barack Obama, the WBNA, homosexual people, women, and transgender people. Detractors have called him a “shock-jockery” artist.
After Johnson’s remarks in 2008, his station at the time, KTLK in Minneapolis, expressed regret for the remarks and broadcast PSAs regarding HIV/AIDS.
