Curtis Brooks was released from prison on Monday, July 1, 2019, after serving 22 years for a crime he committed as a teenager. And then he had to learn to live in a world that he had only seen from his cell.
“It’s just been a case of taking it all in,” Brooks explained.
Curtis Brooks had been imprisoned since he was 15 years old for his role in a 1995 carjacking that resulted in the death of 24-year-old Christopher Ramos. In Aurora, Brooks and three other teenagers approached Christopher as he walked to his car in an attempt to steal it.
Where Is Curtis Brooks Now?
Curtis Brooks, according to reports, lives in New York with his wife. Brooks has been an outspoken advocate for change since his release.
He testified before the Maryland Senate in 2020 in support of a bill to change the Felony Murder law, and again in 2021 before the Colorado Senate.
Brooks has also used his life experiences to launch a campaign to connect with and mentor young people and turn his mistakes into a positive future.
