On May 26, 1943, Dennis Richmond, an American news anchor who spent 40 years at Oakland, California’s KTVU, was born.
In Rossford, Ohio, where he was born and raised, Richmond also finished high school. Between 1961 and 1964, he was a member of the 82nd Airborne Division of the US Army. From 1965 to 1967, he studied at Wayne State University in Detroit. In 1969, he enrolled in Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism thanks to a scholarship he received while working for KTVU.
On April 23, 1968, he began working as a clerk typewriter for KTVU. As the lead anchor of a major-market TV newscast, he was among the first African-Americans to do so. He was given a promotion to anchor in 1976.

From 1978 until 1986, he shared the anchor chair with Barbara Simpson. From 1986 to 1998, Leslie Griffith co-anchored, and from 1999 to 2006, Elaine Corral. Julie Haener was his last co-anchor. His wife and he made Pleasanton, California, their home while he was working there.
Richmond retired on May 26, 2008, the day before his 65th birthday, after 40 years at KTVU, 31 of those as an anchor.
Richmond was the longest-tenured anchor in Bay Area history at the time of his retirement and had earned a reputation as the dean of Bay Area TV news anchors.
