Edwin T. Woodward was a naval officer who served both during and after the American Civil War. His birthday is March 8, 1843. Edwin C. and Charlotte Woodward are the parents of Woodward.

He was appointed to the United States Naval Academy and enrolled there on November 21, 1859. Woodward was one of many whose academic careers at the academy were shortened by the conflict.

On the sloop Mississippi, the Harrison ship Island, and the gunboat Sciota, Woodward participated in the Gulf Blockading Squadrons. In 1861 and 1862, he launched two assaults against and passed through the Confederate batteries at Vicksburg.

In late December 1861, while working as a member of the prize crew aboard the captured Confederate steamship Henry Lewis, Woodward was in charge of one of two small boats that went ashore and captured a Confederate battery off Ship Island, Mississippi.

On February 22nd, 1894, Edwin Woodward, who was 50 years old, passed away. He died and was interred at Greenridge Cemetery in Saratoga Springs, New York.
