Scappaticci grew up in Belfast’s Markets neighborhood. This individual is descended from Daniel Scappaticci, an Italian immigrant who came to the city in the 1920s.

Scappaticci had become control of the IRA Northern Command’s Internal Security Unit (ISU) by the year 1980. For the Irish Republican Army, the ISU was in charge of leak investigations and counterintelligence. (IRA).
