Hanukkah is to Jews what Christmas is to Christians and that’s how important this day is in the Jewish or Hebrew calendar. The direct translation of ‘Hanukkah’ is to establish control and it is basically celebrated to remember the regain of Jerusalem by the Jews and dedicated to the temple.

Its celebration lasts for a period of eight to nine days and it is celebrated by the lightning of nine candles and not just ordinary candles but a special set of candles called ‘shammash’ and they all aren’t lit up together but the lightening of each day comes after a day so it then explains why Eight candles take eight days to light up which is basically the essence of the whole ‘Hanukkah’

Side activities such as singing, playing of ‘driedel’ as well a family gathering to marry-make as well as offer prayers.

Where Is Hanukkah Celebrated?

It is generally celebrated by Jews around the world but its main place of celebration is Israel and a National holiday.
