His career as a sports journalist and cricket pundit, notably for Australia’s Channel Nine, has flourished since his retirement from cricket in 1980. His contributions in that country in particular have earned him widespread recognition. There is little doubt that Chappell is still revered in modern Australian cricket; in fact, Shane Warne referred to him as “the most important person in his life” back in 2006.
The great Chappell is a sports icon in his own right. When Chappell was a senior, he was recognized into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame the same year (1986). After being inducted into the FICA Cricket Hall of Fame in 2000, he was also recognized by the Australian Cricket Hall of Fame in 2003.
