John McAfee created the first anti-virus program for sale in 1987 and established McAfee Associates to market it. In 1994, he announced his resignation and sold the last of his firm stock. In later years, McAfee became the business’s loudest critic, advising customers to uninstall the company’s antivirus software, which he referred to as bloatware.
In October 2020, John McAfee was held in Spain on allegations of evading taxes for the years 2014 and 2018. Federal prosecutors in the United States pursued both criminal and civil charges against John as a result of his four-year failure to file his income tax returns.
