Matthew Edward Patricia (born September 13, 1974) is a senior defensive assistant coach for the Philadelphia Eagles of the National Football League (NFL). He has 15 non-consecutive seasons as a Patriots assistant coach, including six seasons as the team’s defensive coordinator from 2012 to 2017.

Patricia won three Super Bowls with the Patriots, two as defensive coordinator, and oversaw a unit that topped the league in points allowed in 2016. He was the Patriots’ offensive playcaller in 2022. Between his stints in New England, he was the head coach of the Detroit Lions from 2018 to 2020.

Patricia was a four-year letterman on the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) football team as a center and guard from 1992 to 1995.

Patricia returned to RPI in 1996 to begin his coaching career as a graduate assistant. He worked as an application engineer with Hoffman Air & Filtration Systems in East Syracuse, New York for the next two years.
