Michael John McCarthy, is an American football coach, who was born on November 10, 1963. He currently serves as the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys of the National Football League (NFL).
He presided over the Green Bay Packers from 2006 until 2018, and helped the group defeat the Pittsburgh Steelers, who were from his hometown, in Super Bowl XLV in 2011. He formerly served as the New Orleans Saints’ and San Francisco 49ers’ offensive coordinator.
McCarthy was hired as a defensive graduate assistant (GA) in 1987 by Duane Dirk, the defensive coordinator at Fort Hays State University in Kansas.
He concentrated on linebackers and defensive ends during the following two years. However, McCarthy sought a master’s degree while working as a defensive graduate assistant; he earned an M.S. in Sports Administration in 1989.
From 1987 to 1988, McCarthy worked as a graduate assistant at Fort Hays State before moving back to Pittsburgh. He phoned University of Pittsburgh head coach Mike Gottfried on July 30, 1989, asking if there were any coaching vacancies open.
It was advised to McCarthy to mail his resume. Later on, he dropped by Gottfried’s office unannounced to introduce himself. A few days later, one of Gottfried’s assistants resigned, and McCarthy was given the chance to volunteer as a coach without getting paid.
