Scott Lee Peterson, an American born on October 24, 1972, is in prison for life for the murder of two people.
The California jury found him guilty of first-degree murder for the 2004 slaying of his pregnant wife Laci and second-degree murder for the slaying of their unborn son Conner. The city of Modesto was the setting for both murders.
In 2005, Peterson was sentenced to death and received an execution by lethal injection. The Supreme Court of California, the highest court in the state, received an appeal of his case right away.
Although Peterson’s conviction was upheld on August 24, 2020, his death sentence was overturned. He was resentenced on December 8, 2021, and now he will spend the rest of his life behind bars, never to be eligible for release.
Where Is Scott Peterson Now?
Peterson was previously incarcerated on the state’s death row at San Quentin State Prison in California; however, because his sentence was overturned, he was sent to the San Mateo County Jail.
According to the Associated Press, in February 2022, proceedings were initiated to investigate whether or not Peterson was qualified for a new trial based on suspected wrongdoing on the part of jurors in the previous trial.
