Shlomo Carlebach (Hebrew: ; 14 January 1925 – 20 October 1994), a Jewish rabbi, spiritual advisor, composer, and singer, was nicknamed “the singing rabbi” throughout his lifetime.

Although he was raised in traditional Orthodox yeshivot, he left to create his own style that included Hasidic Judaism, warmth and personal interaction, open concerts, and song-filled synagogue services.

He formerly called Manhattan, San Francisco, Toronto, and the Israeli moshav he founded, Mevo Modi’im, home.

Carlebach plays the lead role in the musical Soul Doctor, which made its Broadway debut in 2013. The finest Jewish religious songwriter of the 20th century, in the opinion of many, is Carlebach.

Where is Shlomo Carlebach buried?

On a journey to Canada, Carlebach passed away from a heart attack while the aircraft was still in the air. The time was 16 Cheshvan 5755 in Hebrew.

His remains were transported by air to Har HaMenuchot in Israel.

Chasdei Hashem Ki Lo Samnu was one of the Carlebach songs sung by the mourners during the funeral.

Yisrael Meir Lau, the Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi of Israel, delivered a eulogy.

On the sixteenth of Cheshvan, a memorial service is held at Carlebach’s grave. Additional memorial ceremonies are held in Israel and all across the world.
