Youssef Khater, a Danish fraudster, is said to have been convicted of attempted murder in Chile and fraud in Denmark. Youssef previously served in the Royal Danish Navy for ten years before being dishonorably discharged at the age of 28 for fraud. In 2015, he completed a marathon in Costa Rica.

Khater was arrested in 2009 for fraud, arson, embezzlement, and forgery but did not appear in court in January 2011. He was later convicted in Chile of attempting to murder a Texan woman.

Khater, a 33-year-old Lebanese man, pretended to be a Palestinian marathon runner and ran a 12-bed hostel in Chile.

Where Is Youssef Khater Now?

Youssef Khater was said to be running another marathon in Costa Rica under the alias Josef Maria in December 2015 (via Texas Monthly). He wasn’t seen again until 2017, when he was arrested in Puerto Viejo de Talamanca for massive fraud but was quickly released.

Khater was last seen in Denmark in 2018. Josef Maria and Joseph Carter are his most commonly used aliases. “Worst Roommate Ever,” a Netflix documentary, tells Youssef Khater’s story in great detail.
