??Sir Archibald David Stirling was an officer of the British army. David Stirling, as he was well known, was also a mountaineer as well as the founder and creator of the Special Air Service (SAS). Sir Stirling was very active during the Second World War, which was between 1939 and 1945. Sit Stirling was also known as The Phantom Major.

During Sir David Stirling’s years in the military, he rose to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and was also in charge of the Special Air Service.

Sir David Stirling has a series of honours which include the Distinguished Service Order, Officer of the Order of the British Empire as well as his appointment as a Knight Bachelor in the 1990 New Year Honours.

Sir David Stirling passed away on 4 November 1990 in Westminster, London in the United Kingdom at the age of 74 years.
