Chief Mbazulike Amaechi, a famous Nigerian politician was born on June 16, 1929. He was a member of the Zikist Movement, the general secretary of the armels transport union, and the assistant secretary of the Benin and Warri districts.

The elder statesman called a protest rally of all workers in Benin and the surrounding area on November 18, 1949, and demanded that the alleged murderers of 18 Nigerian Coal Corporation employees in Enugu State, who were reportedly taking part in a strike press their claims for seniority pay for the workers, receive adequate punishment.

On the platform of the now-defunct National Council of Nigerian Citizens, Mr. Amaechi was elected a member of the House of Representatives in 1959. In 1962, he was then named minister of transportation and aviation.
