Nigerian trumpeter, gospel songwriter, singer, and pastor Nathaniel Bassey is well recognized for his songs “Imela,” “Onise Iyanu,” and “Olowogbogboro.” Bassey was born in 1981 in Lagos, Nigeria.

He attended the University of Lagos, where he studied politics and international relations before travelling to London to continue his political studies. In contrast, he attended the Middlesex University Summer School for music studies.

Nathaniel began playing music in the church, where he played the trumpet for two years in the Rhodes Orchestra. Before writing a song for the late Stella Obasanjo, the late wife of former president Olusegun Obasanjo, he was just a regular trumpet player. Bassey was a prominent performer at the Nigerian Christian event The Experience in 2018.

He pastors The Oasis Lagos, the youth church of the RCCG Kings Court in VI, Lagos.
