Francisco “Paco” Gento López, a football player who played for Spain and died on 18 January 2022, was outside left. The IFFHS recognized him as the best Spanish footballer of the 20th century and the 30th greatest player in history (International Federation of Football History and Statistics).
Gento joined Racing Santander in 1952 to begin his career before moving to Real Madrid the following year. He took part in an unprecedented eight European Cup finals, won an unprecedented six of them, and captured an unprecedented 12 La Liga titles.
Over the course of a 14-year international career, Gento participated in the 1962 and 1966 World Cups for Spain, gaining 43 caps.
