Vedic hymns and Hindu literature, such as prayers and vrata, are chanted as part of the celebrations (fasting). Sweets like modaka, which are thought to be a favourite of Ganesha, are among the offerings and prasada from the daily prayers that are given from the pandal to the community.
On the tenth day following the festival’s beginning, the idol is carried in a public parade as the music plays and people sing. On the day of Anant Chaturdashi, this immersion, known as visarjan, takes place in a river or the sea nearby. Approximately 150,000 monuments are submerged each year in Mumbai alone. Ganesha is said to then return to his heavenly abode once the clay statue disintegrates.
