Daniel Belizario Urresti Elera is a retired army general from Peru who was born on August 25, 1956. For one of 200 openings at the Chorrillos Military School in 1972, Urresti applied out of 2000 applicants. The top 20 candidates that applied were the ones who got him admitted.

Juan Valer Sandoval, who is now revered as a national hero for his leadership during Operation Chaván de Huantar in 1997, was one of his classmates. The greatest awards were awarded to Urresti as he completed his studies at the Chorrillos Military School in 1978.

As an army lieutenant and captain, Urresti oversaw various communications networks in the Peruvian highlands during the country’s internal war between 1980 and 2000. He participated in the 1988 assassination of journalist Hugo Bustos while in charge of an army patrol in Castro Pampa, Ayacucho. Until legal action was taken against Urresti in 2009, the case remained unsolved.
