There were many onboard including students as well. It was noted that the poorly secured cargo started sliding across the decks, forcing the ferry further onto its side. The ship soon capsized. More than 300 people were killed. Only 172 passengers made it off alive.
The overloaded ferry sank after a sudden turn causing it to list to the right and capsize. In fact, many lost their lives painfully and sadly. Unfortunately, only a few were rescued and survived successfully.
