The sinking of Sewol brought about a widespread social and political reaction within South Korea which subsequeltly caught global attention. A lot of people criticized the actions of the ferry’s captain and most of the crew for the accident. On May 15, 2014, the captain of the Sewol and three crew members were both charged with murder. The other eleven members of the crew were subsequently indicted for abandoning the ship. Later, the police also issued an arrest warrant for Yoo Byung-eun who is the owner of Chonghaejin Marine. However, Yoo could not be found despite a nationwide manhunt for him.
