Bakayoko excels as a centre midfielder because of his ability to stymie play, but he can also play in other positions, such as a box-to-box midfielder.
Because of his all-around talent, physical power, and athleticism, France manager Didier Deschamps views him as a complete midfielder.
After fracturing his leg as a young player, Bakayoko enrolled in the Rennes academy at the age of 13. He was turned down by Clairfontaine Academy when he was 14.
Before leaving Rennes for Monaco in 2014 for 8 million euros, he made 24 appearances during his rookie season there.
In each of his first two Ligue 1 seasons with the team, Bakayoko appeared in 31 games, but in 2016–17, he started each game and led Monaco to the title.
