Wise County Sheriff Lane Akin stated during a press conference on Friday night that the body of 7-year-old Athena Strand had been discovered and that a suspect was apprehended.

Tanner Lynn Horner, 31, confessed to police Wednesday afternoon to kidnapping and killing Athena, according to Akin.

Akin claimed Horner, a contract FedEx truck driver, was delivering a package to Athena’s family home when she was kidnapped.

Horner is being charged with capital murder and aggravated kidnapping, according to Akin. He has been placed into the Wise County Jail, and his bond is currently set at $1.5 million.

“Because it’s a child, it’s one of the most difficult cases I’ve ever been engaged in,” Akin added. “When a child dies, it simply breaks your heart. You compare that child to your own children at the same age.”
