Indianapolis Colts’ General Manager, Chris Ballard, expressed his dissatisfaction with the current Jonathan Taylor situation. Despite their efforts, the Colts were unable to trade the running back before their self-imposed Tuesday deadline.
Consequently, Taylor will be sidelined for a minimum of the first four games of the season as he is placed on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list. Chris Ballard voiced his sentiments, reflecting the team’s disappointment with this outcome.
Ballard in a statement said, “I’m not going to sit here and give you some rosy picture, like, ‘Oh, everything’s okay.’ It sucks for the Colts. It sucks for Jonathan Taylor. And it sucks for our fans. It just does. It’s where we’re at and we’ve got to work through it.”
Who is Chris Ballard?
Christopher R. Ballard is an American football executive known for his role as the general manager of the Indianapolis Colts in the National Football League (NFL). Ballard was with the Kansas City Chiefs before joining the Colts and serving as Director of Football Operations. He also served in coaching positions at Texas A&M University-Kingsville and worked as a scout for the Chicago Bears.
Chris Ballard joined as the new general manager of the Indianapolis Colts in the middle of the 2016 NFL Playoffs. He apparently found the local ownership and the team’s famed past to be what drew him to the position of general manager in Indianapolis. Ballard started a thorough squad revamp as soon as he took over, focusing especially on the team’s defense. Four starters from the prior season were let go as part of this revamp.
The Colts had a losing record in Ballard’s first year in that position. The squad decided to break ways with Head Coach Chuck Pagano before his second campaign. Josh McDaniels, the offensive coordinator for the New England Patriots, surprisingly withdrew from the agreement in principle despite the Colts’ claim that they had signed him.
Chris Ballard signed a hefty five-year contract deal with the Indianapolis Colts in August 2021, after making a comeback to the Colts.
