A judge handed down a life sentence to a man who had killed Officer Garry Lee Michael of the Clinton, Mo. police force during a traffic stop in 2017.

The man has been identified as Ian Mcarthy. He was found guilty of first-degree murder by the jury in June. As per reports, he won’t be eligible for parole and will spend the rest of his life in prison.

Who is Ian Mcarthy?

Ian Mcarthy is 45 years old. He will serve the rest of his life behind bars without the possibility of parole. The jury was unable to decide between the death penalty and a life sentence without parole earlier in the summer.

McCarthy received a guilty conviction for first-degree murder from the jury in June. The 911 dispatch audio, testimony from the cops who found Michael in critical condition, and details from his autopsy report were all played for the jury at various points during the trial. The judge relieved one jury of their duty after seeing social media posts about the trial.

On August 6, 2017, Officer Michael pulled over a vehicle in Clinton, Missouri, close to the Henry County Library as part of a routine traffic check. Sadly, he was shot to death. Michael was able to describe the SUV and its license plate before the event, which later turned out to belong to McCarthy.

McCarthy’s SUV was found abandoned and smashed into a hillside after the incident. McCarthy’s cellphone was found close to the debris, and forensic examination and witness accounts verified its ownership.

Locals nearby claimed to have seen a man running from the SUV, and CCTV footage from a convenience shop verified McCarthy’s identity as the driver. McCarthy was arrested and brought into custody following a protracted manhunt that lasted almost two days.
