She took some time off Parliament in 2016, after being diagnosed with breast cancer which presently returned. Garrett’s death was disclosed by her family in a statement on Saturday night.
The statement read”We are devastated by the passing afternoon of our beloved mother, daughter, and sister. She was born on March 16, 1973, in Melbourne, Australia.
Garrett studied law at the Australian University College. In the 2010 state election, She was voted to the legislative Assembly after winning the Labor endorsement to stand for the increasingly marginal seat of Brunswick.
She was appointed in 2011, as national junior vice president of the Labor party administering in that capacity until 2017.
Garrett declared in December 2021, that she will resign from politics at the 2022 state election.
