The Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) is an international songwriting competition organised yearly by the European Broadcasting Union. The 66th edition of ESC is taking place in Turin, Italy as a result of the country taking up victory at the 2021 contest with the song “Zitti e buoni” by Måneskin.

The contest is set to be held at the PalaOlimpico, Italy. It consists of two semi-finals dated May 10 and May 12 and a final on May 14, 2022. And in this year, the music band trio, Systur, is representing Iceland’s entry.

Who is Systur? Iceland’s Eurovision 2022 entry

Systur is an Icelandic word which means ‘sisters’ in English. It is the name for an Icelandic band which comprises three sisters namely; Sigriđur, Elísabet and Elín Eyþórsdóttir.

They are also known as Sigga, Beta and Elín. Their band was initially called Tripolia.

They hail from Reykjavik, Iceland and were born to Ellen Kristjánsdóttir (mother) who is a singer also and Eyþór Gunnarsson (father), a composer and keyboardist.

They began their music career in 2011. In 2017, they released their first single, “Bounce from the Bottom”.

Systur won Söngvakeppnin, Icelandic national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest, in March 2022. They performed Međhækhandi söl which brought their victory.

The trio are set to represent their country in the ESC in Italy.
