Akie, born Akie Matsuzaki on June 10, 1962, is recognized as a socialite.

Her father, a former president of one of Japan’s biggest confectionery companies, Morinaga & Co., comes from a wealthy family.

She attended the private Roman Catholic Sacred Heart School in Tokyo, also known as Seishin Joshi Gakuin, for her elementary and secondary education. She then obtained her degree from the Sacred Heart Professional Training College.

Abe later worked for Dentsu Inc., the largest advertising agency in the world, before being married to Shinzo Abe in 1987. The couple tried unsuccessful fertility treatments before getting married, but they never had kids.

Abe had a radio show in Shimonoseki, her husband’s hometown, in the late 1990s. In the radio industry, she was well-liked and went by the jockey alias “Akky”.

In March 2011, she graduated from Rikkyo University with a master’s degree in social design studies.
