The genesis of the Invictus Games lies in Prince Harry’s visit to the US Warrior Games in 2013. Witnessing the transformative power of sports on injured service personnel, he was inspired to create an event that could similarly positively impact the lives of those on the road to recovery.

The inaugural Invictus Games took place in March 2014 at London’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, marking the beginning of a movement that has since spread across continents.

With a focus on aiding recovery, the Invictus Games have evolved to include a variety of sports, ranging from wheelchair basketball and sitting volleyball to swimming, wheelchair rugby, and indoor rowing.

The Games, typically spanning a week, see participation from around 550 competitors, representing various nations. In addition to the nine core sports, there is room for additional activities and competitions, reflecting the event’s adaptability and inclusivity.

Notably, the upcoming 2023 edition will feature countries such as Israel, Colombia, and Nigeria, further highlighting the Games’ international reach.
