Milan won the match 3-2 on penalties after David Trezeguet, Marcelo Zalayeta, and Paolo Montero failed for Juventus.

The same Milam team lost the UCL final to Liverpool two years later, in 2005, in what is now regarded as one of the greatest comebacks in football history.
