Akwasi Addo Alfred Kwarteng was born on May 26, 1975, in London, United Kingdom. He has served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Spelthorne in northern Surrey since 2010.
He is a member of the British Conservative Party. Aside from serving as Chancellor of the Exchequer under Liz Truss from September to October 2022, he was Secretary of State for Business, Energy, and Industrial Strategy from 2021 to 2022.
Kwarteng was a financial analyst at JPMorgan Chase, WestLB, and the hedge fund Odey Asset Management before entering into politics. He also wrote columns for The Daily Telegraph, and in 2011, Bloomsbury published his book named “Ghosts of Empire,” which he authored about the British Empire’s legacy.
In 2011, he and Jonathan Dupont co-wrote the book Gridlock Nation, which is about the reasons and remedies for traffic congestion in Britain.
Kwarteng was called the ” rising star on the right of the party” in 2015. He first ran as a Conservative in the Brent East district in the general election of 2005, he came In third place. In 2006, Kwarteng served as the Bow Group’s chairman, and also a conservative research group.
