In 2018, Musk is said to have made a bid for OpenAI, which he helped build in 2015.

However, the Tesla executive quit OpenAI when his offer was declined. Musk left Tesla alleging a conflict of interest as the firm was testing its own AI-based autonomous driving software.

Furthermore, OpenAI had to contend with the enormous costs associated with training AI systems at the time. The ChatGPT developer switched from being “non-profit” to “for-profit” in 2019, attracting businesses like Microsoft (MSFT), who made large investments in its ChatGPT.

Who Owns AI Stock?

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman attacked the open letter from a number of academics and researchers as well as Tesla CEO Elon Musk and Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak for missing “technical nuance.”
