The Boston Beer Company was founded by Jim Koch, Harry Rubin, and Lorenzo Lamadrid in 1984,
Boston Beer Company’s first brand of beer was named Samuel Adams after Founding Father Samuel Adams, an American revolutionary patriot. Since its founding, Boston Beer has started several other brands, and in 2019 completed a merger with Dogfish Head Brewery.

Following Jim Koch’s great-great grandfather’s recipe, Samuel Adams continued to use traditional brewing processes, including decoction mash and krausenin. Boston Lager is also dry-hopped using the Hallertau Mittelfrueh and Tettnang Tettnanger hops. Boston Beer Company invested 85 million dollars in its Cincinnati plant to quadruple its current canning capacity of Samuel Adams, Angry Orchard, Twisted Tea, and Truly Hard Seltzer. The company is currently owned by Boston Beer Co.

Today, The Boston Beer Company will continue its independent quest to brew great beer and advocate for craft beer’s growth across America. In addition to Samuel Adams beers and craft beers brewed by Angel City Brewery, Coney Island Brewery, and Dogfish Head Miami, our family of brands includes Truly Hard Seltzer, Twisted Tea, and Angry Orchard hard cider.
