A new casino has been constructed in Cherokee County, North Carolina, as part of a $110 million project. In October 2013, a ceremony to mark the beginning of construction on the new Harrah’s Casino was held at the location just outside of Murphy. A 300-room full service hotel, numerous dining options, and 60,000 square feet of gaming space with slots and traditional table games were all be available at the Cherokee County facility.

The casino is about two hours’ drive from downtown Atlanta, Knoxville, and Chattanooga, and it will cater to the large and expanding adult population that lives in that area. 7.4 million adults over the age of 21 who lived nearby the casino in 2011 (within a 2.5-hour drive). Harrah’s Cherokee started providing live table games on August 21, 2012, thanks to an amendment of the agreement between the state of North Carolina and the EBCI.
