The hospital was established in 1956 as a small community hospital, but it has since expanded to become a major medical facility with over 400 beds and several services. It is the only hospital in Marion County with a Level II trauma center, and its cardiovascular program is globally regarded.

Community members and hospital staff comprise the board of directors that governs Munroe Regional Medical Center. The board is responsible for establishing the hospital’s overall direction and policies, as well as monitoring its financial performance.

Community Health Systems, Inc., a publicly traded firm that maintains hospitals and other healthcare facilities in the United States, is the owner of the Munroe Regional Medical Cenater as well as the organization that manages its operations.
