NASCAR largely controls racing in the United States and has expanded globally. There are fifteen different racing series in the U.S. under the NASCAR umbrella. Each series holds anywhere between three and 38 races per season.

The racing organization is a privately-owned company and has been in the France family since its inception in 1948. NASCAR is owned by the France family. Bill France, Sr. started NASCAR and remained president of the company until 2018. The company is currently run by CEO Jim France, Bill Sr.’s son. The France family has a net worth of over $5 billion.

In the 1920s and 1930s, Daytona Beach supplanted France and Belgium as the preferred location for world land speed records. After a historic race between Ransom Olds and Alexander Winton in 1903, 15 records were set on what became the Daytona Beach Road Course between 1905 and 1935.

Daytona Beach had become synonymous with fast cars in 1936. Currently, NASCAR sanctions over 1500 races on over 100 tracks around the world every year. The company additionally owns eleven speedway tracks.
