American fitness studio, Orangetheory, the first studio was established in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in 2010 by founder, Ellen Latham. The classes are one hour long and involve two groups, one on the treadmills and the other group working with weights or on rowers.

David Long who is the company’s CEO, says, The inspiration at the time, was identifying a growing disenchantment with the wellness industry’s litany of buzzwords, conflicting messaging, fad diets, and newfangled exercise regimens. “As a lifelong fitness advocate, I saw a need that a lot of gyms and fitness programs weren’t filling,” he recalls.

In the years since, the brand has opened some 1,400-plus studios throughout 27 countries, attracted one million-plus remember developed two apps and signature wearable tech, and accrued more than US$1.4 billion in annual revenue. Orangetheory Fitness was ranked #415 in Inc. magazine’s “Fastest-Growing Private Companies” list, and #255 in Entrepreneur magazine’s 2016 “Franchise 500” list of top franchises in the world. Its position on the “Franchise 500” rose to #25 in 2019, and #43 in 2020.
